Description of the Item

Mahogany so called "Portefeuille" (wallet) table with a tabletop that unfolds like a wallet to double the surface and which reveals a green leather cover. This table is supported by tapered legs ending with small brass boots.

This table of the Directoire (1789-1804) period is typical of its time. Just after the French revolution, artists dropped any conspicuous signs of power and returned to simple forms with less shiny bronze.

The originality of this table is in its tabletop surface that transforms from a small square table into a large beautiful desk with a leather top surface.
